Overview

Srinagar

Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated in the Kashmir Valley, it lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus. The city is famous for its gardens, lakes, houseboats, dry fruits and especially for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts. Srinagar has been called the “Venice of the East”. It is known for its lakes, which include Dal Lake, noted for its houseboats and Nagin Lake. Most visited tourist destinations from Srinagar are Chashma Shahi, the royal fountains, Pari Mahal (the palace of the fairies), Nishat Bagh (the garden of springs), Shalimar Bagh, Naseem Bagh and Tulip Gardens.

Pahalgam

Pahalgam is a prominent tourist attraction in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Pahalgam was formerly a popular tourist destination and location for Bollywood filming, and it is still a health resort. The area has a dense vegetation cover, with conifers dominating the woodland. Pahalgam is also related with the annual Amarnath Yatra, which begins 16 kilometres from Pahalgam and takes place every year in the month of Sawan.

Gulmarg

CNN International ranked Gulmarg, commonly known as India’s winter sports heartland, as Asia’s eighth best ski destination. In the winter, the diverse and rugged terrain combines with heavy snowfall to create the world’s top snow destination. Gulmarg’s world-class golfing, trekking, horseback riding, water skiing, and fishing draw outdoor sports enthusiasts. Gulmarg is without a doubt India’s winter sports capital.
